Hello all, it is Wednesday afternoon, July 15.
I’m heading to Karachi for a bit and looking forward to it, despite it being in the state that it is in. There was a time that Karachiites took great pride in being the cosmopolitan city, melting pot of ideas and professionalism and what not, but it’s now dwindling. Goes to show how bad governance can really bring all of that down. The citizens are the same: same drive to do something and become someone but the awful administration of the city has taken a toll. Such a waste of great talent I say. If the govt can’t give you a good, safe place to live, whats the point of working hard for it?
Lahore mai tou wah wah ho rahi hai (sarcastically as well) as Lahore High Court allows its 2k judicial officers to buy govt cars for real cheap, the Punjab Assembly wants a nation wide ban on social media for under 16s and the case of the murdered doctor in Karachi has some updates.

Police have arrested three suspects in the killing of Dr Akash Kumar, the young doctor who was shot dead during a robbery near Teen Talwar in Karachi’s Clifton area. Investigators say the suspects confessed to tracking the victim after an insider at the bank tipped them off about his Rs5 million cash withdrawal, and police have also recovered the getaway car and weapons. Raids are ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the gang, as doctors continue to protest across Karachi.
The Lahore High Court has allowed nearly 2,000 judicial officers in Punjab to buy their official government vehicles at heavily subsidised prices ranging from Rs250,000 to Rs350,000. The scheme covers judges across district courts as well as specialised courts, with eligible vehicles including Suzuki Altos, Toyota Corollas and Honda Citys. Judges must submit payment by July 22 to purchase the cars currently allotted to them.
The Punjab Assembly has proposed banning children under 16 from having social media accounts unless they have parental consent. The resolution asks the federal government to introduce age verification rules and make social media companies do more to protect children online. It comes amid growing concerns over cyberbullying, online abuse, harmful content and screen addiction.
A National Assembly committee has raised concerns over the poor internet quality around the country, saying slow speeds and frequent call drops are affecting users even in major cities like Karachi. Officials blamed prolonged power outages at mobile towers and said 5G services are currently running on existing infrastructure, with upgrades expected over the next six to eight months. The PTA also told lawmakers that 92% of smartphones used in Pakistan are now manufactured or assembled locally (with imported ones mostly limited to iPhones and Google Pixel).
