It’s Wednesday Sept 23 and if you haven’t filed your taxes, you have one week to do it!
The United Nations General Assembly is meeting and PM Shehbaz has made headlines in Trump’s speech, a story we ALL need to talk about coming out from Peshawar (when will we accept that a mistake by a child doesn’t have to result in death), and your doctor might be overworked and that is definitely not a good thing.

Pakistan has taken centre stage at the UN General Assembly as it pushed Washington and Tehran towards renewed talks (Trump called Shehbaz a ‘terrific’ man in Trump’s speech yesterday). President Trump said US officials held a three-hour meeting with an Iranian delegation, while the UN chief’s office described Pakistan’s mediation role as “critical”. PM Shehbaz and Deputy PM Ishaq Dar also held a series of high-level meetings, with Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Egypt jointly calling for dialogue and implementation of the Islamabad MoU. PM Shehbaz is set to address the assembly on Sept 25.
A 13-year-old girl in Peshawar was allegedly killed by her mother after a pregnancy test came back positive. Police say the mother confessed to hanging her daughter from a tree near their home and has been arrested. Authorities are investigating the case and searching for the girl’s father and other relatives.
The Islamabad High Court has called doctors working up to 102 hours a week “inhuman” and asked the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to recommend limits on duty hours. The court was told that after 24 hours on duty, a doctor’s impairment can be comparable to a blood alcohol level of 0.1, increasing the risk of medical errors. International limits are far lower, with doctors capped at an average 48 hours a week in Europe and 80 hours in the US.
The Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) will be completely closed to traffic from 11pm on Wednesday, Sept 23, with police urging travellers to postpone non-essential journeys. The closure comes as security is tightened ahead of PTI’s planned Sept 27 march to Islamabad, with around 2,000 containers placed around the capital and Attock Bridge. The M-2 between Lahore and Islamabad will remain open to traffic.
Hundreds of thousands of children in Gaza have returned to in-person classes for the first time in nearly three years, many studying in tents and makeshift classrooms. With 98% of Gaza’s schools damaged or destroyed, students are learning with few supplies, often sitting on floors in extreme heat. Around 540,000 children are expected to attend classes this year.

If you hide their weakness today, tomorrow they will return the favour.
