KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has claimed he was “abducted” by authorities in Lahore and later left by the roadside without security. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari rejected the allegation as “total drama”, saying Afridi voluntarily entered a police vehicle and later refused to get out. A senior KP official also said Afridi had boarded the police van himself to try to secure the release of detained PTI workers, while PTI accused the Punjab govt targeting an elected chief minister.
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed says she was threatened and followed after challenging the first autopsy in Mir Raza Ali’s murder case, and accused DIG Amir Farooqi of trying to influence her findings. A second post-mortem found multiple injuries, acid burns and anaesthesia in Mir Raza’s body when he was shot. Dr Syed described it as the first case of “chemical torture” she had seen.
WhatsApp messages reportedly sent by Mir Raza Ali days before his death reveal his family was facing a severe financial crisis. He allegedly told a friend his father had been scammed out of Rs15 million, while Rs14m in gold and a Rs3m vehicle had been sold, writing: “everything we had is gone.” An alleged video showing payments to creditors at Mir Raza’s home has also surfaced, although its circumstances have not been independently verified.
A probe into the alleged O/A Level paper leaks has found no evidence that the leak originated in Pakistan, with investigators saying it likely came from abroad. The NCCIA said its investigation is limited because it cannot directly access overseas servers. The probe was launched after students and parents raised concerns over alleged leaks of Cambridge exam papers earlier this year.
Petrol prices have risen by Rs4.42 to Rs380.24 per litre, while diesel is up Rs6.10 to Rs409.42, effective September 15. The hike comes amid volatile global oil prices and renewed Middle East tensions. Pakistan is also moving to daily fuel price reviews, based on a rolling seven-day average of international prices.
