Hello all, it’s Wednesday Sept 9 and I’m thinking, what is the one event you want to witness once in your life?
For me, it was Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s concert in Karachi in 1997, which was his last concert. A friend and her family were attending and asked me to come along but I wasn’t able to go that day. BIG REGRET.
In highlights, Pakistan and India might be playing a bilateral series soon, the first after 2013. Now that would also be an event not to be missed, yes?
The KU professor story today is scary, given I’ve heard this is happening in KHI a lot. People getting into accidents and then having to stand down because the other side has guns on them. Seems like for good reason given what happened to the professor.
See you all tomorrow!

Three prisoners at Adiala Jail have approached the Federal Constitutional Court seeking the same medical and communication facilities provided to PTI’s Imran Khan. Citing the constitutional right to equal treatment, they have asked to be transferred to the hospital when needed and be allowed to communicate with people abroad via WhatsApp, similar to Khan’s set up in jail. Separately, Khan and Bushra Bibi met for 35 minutes inside Adiala Jail, where they discussed their well-being and ongoing legal cases; no family members, lawyers or political leaders were allowed to meet them.
A family in Quetta says one of their newborn twins has gone missing from Civil Hospital after the mother underwent a C-section. The family says multiple ultrasound reports confirmed she was carrying twins, but hospital staff handed them only one baby and said only one had been born. The hospital has now formed an inquiry committee to investigate what happened to the alleged second baby.
University of Karachi professor Dr Muhammad Arif Khan Saqi says he and his cab driver were assaulted after a road accident in Safoora Goth, with the other driver’s armed guards allegedly hitting them with rifle butts and firing in the air. He says they were then taken to a hotel and held captive for several hours before police intervened. Three suspects have since been detained, while the KU Teachers’ Association has condemned the attack and demanded action against everyone involved.
The FBR has introduced a simpler tax option for small shopkeepers. They can pay 1% of their yearly sales, with a minimum tax of Rs25,000, and file a short one-page return. Those who join will also get fewer inspections and will not have to meet some normal requirements like POS integration and digital invoicing. Registered traders will also receive a “green plate”, with FBR saying field teams generally won’t enter their premises unless a major issue is found.
Pakistan and India could face each other in a new three or four-team cricket tournament, with the idea expected to be discussed at an ICC meeting in Dubai later this month. The tournament would include one or two other countries and could be played at a neutral venue such as the UAE, England or Australia. Pakistan and India haven’t played a bilateral series since 2013 and currently only meet in major ICC and Asian Cricket Council tournaments.
