Netanyahu's Brother
He got a standing ovation and warm praise from Netanyahu post his speech.
Good morning all and a big hello to 30 new readers! I have figured out that a good explainer on an issue is appreciated by all of you, so I will adding those in when needed.
Another slow news day: an update on four security operations, and aah, people wanting to go to the UK will be so relieved by the e-Visa announcement, and Modi-Netanyahu get super cosy on Modi’s trip. I’ve also softly explained the UAE loan story — that $2 billion rollover Pakistan is expecting (and honestly hoping for) from the Gulf nation. There’s still no formal confirmation of a longer loan extension, and the IMF has already started asking questions about it.
Also, if you guys have any tried and tested product recommendations, events you’re going to or something you would like to highlight, definitely email me at thecurrentpk@gmail.com. We’re try it as well and pass on the reccs! Oh and, Iftar and Sehri timings at the end of the newsletter.
Security forces say they’ve killed 34 “India-sponsored” militants in four intelligence-based operations across KP and Balochistan on February 24, including 26 in KP and eight in Zhob, with weapons also recovered. ISPR says the operations targeted Fitna al-Khwarij and Fitna al-Hindustan fighters (Indian-sponsored terrorists), saying a group of them were trying to infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. They were '“picked up by the security forces…” and “one kharji belonging to Indian proxy, Fitna al-Khwarij, was sent to hell”, noting that he was an Afghan national.
All Pakistanis traveling to the UK can now get a digital eVisa instead of a passport sticker. You apply online and give biometrics, keep your passport and receive your visa confirmation by email. Current, active visas to the UK are not affected by this change. Meanwhile, Italy has announced 10,500 work visas for skilled Pakistanis and a visa exemption for diplomatic passport holders, as both countries work towards legal migration and security cooperation.
The IMF has raised concerns that Pakistan still hasn’t secured a one-year rollover of a $2 billion UAE deposit, meaning if it isn’t extended, Pakistan would have to repay it, putting pressure on foreign exchange reserves. A “rollover” basically means extending the loan instead of paying it back when the time comes. Officials say the UAE had only given a temporary two-month rollover so far, but Finance Minister Aurangzeb insists there is “no issue whatsoever.” Aurangzeb also added that the IMF delegation has arrived in Karachi and will begin formal talks with Pakistan in Islamabad from Monday.
Modi stood before Israel’s parliament and said India backs Israel “with full conviction”, condemning the October 7 attacks and calling the two countries “trusted partners” in trade, tech and security. He got a standing ovation and warm praise from Netanyahu post his speech, with Netanyahu saying that Modi was, “more than a friend, a brother”. India is also Israel’s largest arms buyer, spending $20.5bn on Israeli weapons between 2020-2024.
A National Public Radio (NPR) investigation has found the U.S. Justice Department withheld and even removed dozens of Epstein-related files that mention allegations against President Trump, including what appear to be 50+ pages of FBI interviews. The US Department of Justice says any missing documents are duplicates, privileged or part of an ongoing probe, but questions are mounting over why specific interview records were excluded. Democrats are now demanding answers and have launched a parallel investigation into the missing files.
Sometimes you’re allowed to hold onto that grudge a little longer, not out of bitterness, but because you’re still processing. Honor your feelings today and when you do forgive, you’ll do it for real.
