Hey everyone, it’s Tuesday, the 6th of Ramzan. I’m really sorry I was unable to send the newsletter yesterday! I had a super intense flu and was unable to get up in the morning. It’s much better today but Ramzan has a way ‘dhaka starting’ our days!
Today is also a slow news day with only Khan’s overnight visit to the hospital making waves this morning. If you were following judge Jahangiri’s case, there is a big update on that, a SUPER interesting case on missing cigarette cartons from FBR custody (can’t wait for an update on this one), and the govt is helping 3,000 Pakistanis get their Spanish residency.
See you all tomorrow, hopefully! As always, sharing an easy sign up link to the newsletter for family and friends.
Imran Khan was taken to PIMS under tight security for his second eye injection (he’s been prescribed three injections and last night was his second one), with doctors confirming his heart tests were normal before the procedure. He was discharged after an hour and shifted back to Adiala Jail, with his third injection due on March 23. However, PTI continues to demand treatment at Shifa and presence of his personal doctors for transparency.
The Islamabad High Court has declared former judge Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri’s appointment “void from the start,” ruling his law degree invalid after finding evidence of fake enrollment numbers, impersonation and disciplinary bans during his university years. In a scathing 116-page verdict, the bench called Jahangiri’s defence ‘delay tactics’, saying that Jahangiri did not submit any evidence in his defense, despite being notified that he had to respond. In his appeal, the former judge claimed the court acted with bias and unnecessary haste, saying he wasn’t properly notified.
A Senate sub-committee has demanded accountability after 2,828 cartons of confiscated cigarettes mysteriously disappeared from FBR godowns in Swabi and Mardan, summoning the FBR chairman for skipping the meeting where he was supposed to give answers. Lawmakers questioned why only lower staff were sacked despite seals and locks on the rooms being intact, flagged missing CCTV and records, and raised eyebrows over why, initially, the cartons was moved from a monitored warehouse to one without cameras, after which they were stolen.
Karachi has been put on high alert after fresh intelligence reports flagged possible terror threats, with IG Sindh ordering tighter security at all entry and exit points. Senior officers have been told to stay in the field, increase snap security checks, protect sensitive installations, and speed up crackdowns on beggars and street crime to prevent any security breaches. The high alert comes after Pakistan attacked terrorists based in Afghanistan this past week.
The government has moved to help over 3,000 Pakistanis in Spain secure residency by streamlining paperwork and speeding up verification for Spanish Resident Cards. In a key change, multiple local police clearances will now be replaced with a single national character certificate issued centrally by the National Police Bureau to cut delays and ease the process.
It’s a rough start to the week but today you’ll get some room to breathe.
Looking for good salad recipes this Ramzan? Half-baked Harvest has some great ones on her website, like this one for a Tahini dressing. She uses a lot of cheese etc which you can limit if you like, but the salad dressings are great!
