Three month vacation??
It's just not okay
Hello all, it’s Tuesday May 12 and I don’t get it.
Punjab has extended the summer holidays for three months (May-Aug), citing bad weather and and Sindh is sticking to the two month vacay (June-July). The weather issues Punjab is referring to also hit Sindh, so it’s strange that an additional month is being taken off by Punjab instead of taking preemptive measures.
In other news, Donald Trump has everyone bored as he calls Iran’s response to his proposal ‘stupid’ and Iran is saying they’re ready to war - again.
An interesting story coming out of the Supreme Court is in highlights before and don’t miss the recommendation today. Lahore is doing some pretty interesting events!

A retired Pakistan Railways employee, Liaqat, was martyred after confronting a suspected suicide bomber near Kohat in KP, security sources said. The attacker reportedly blew himself up when Liaqat stopped him and asked for identification, preventing what officials say could have been a major attack on a nearby sensitive checkpoint and civilians. Police said the incident highlights the continuing militant threat in KP and along the border with Afghanistan.
Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti said intelligence agencies foiled a major terror plot after arresting a woman allegedly being forced into carrying out a suicide attack in Islamabad. According to Bugti, terrorists threatened to kill the woman’s father if she refused the ‘mission’, calling it another example of extremist groups exploiting women and young girls. The CM said the woman would be safely returned to her family and praised security agencies for preventing what he described as a “major disaster.”
The Supreme Court has ruled that a property owned by a third person cannot be included in Haq Mehr (dower) without the owner’s clear and proven consent. The case involved a one-kanal (500 yards) plot in Peshawar belonging to a father-in-law, which the court removed from the dower agreement after finding no evidence he had agreed to it. The apex court upheld the remaining dower items, including Rs500,000 and gold jewellery, but declared the plot invalidly included. The judgment also directed authorities to add a separate ownership column in Nikahnamas to help prevent future legal disputes.
Punjab has announced summer vacations for all public and private schools from May 22-Aug 23, giving students more than three months because of rising temperatures and heatwave warnings. In Sindh however, according to an official announcement, all educational institutions in the province will remain closed for two months, from June 1 to July 31.
WAR UPDATE
Yesterday in the evening, Trump rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal, calling it “stupid” and saying the truce was on “massive life support,” and Iran said negotiations were still possible if held with dignity and national interests protected.
Iran’s parliament speaker said its armed forces were ready and that the US had “no alternative” but to accept Iran’s 14-point proposal, while Tehran also backed China’s four-point peace plan. We have no information on what is exactly in the 14th point plan or the four point plan but we do know that Iran has said they will ‘temporarily pause uranium enrichment’ that Trump didn’t like.
Oil prices are crazy (and even Pakistan’s Senate told off the federal govt very badly yesterday on the rising oil prices) and Aramco warned markets may take months to rebalance even if Hormuz opens.
Meanwhile, the US, UK and Australia announced fresh Iran-linked sanctions, including over oil shipments to China, shadow banking, alleged attack plots and support for proxy groups.
Lebanon saw continued Israeli attacks, with deaths reported in southern Lebanon and Nabatieh, while Hezbollah claimed 20 attacks on Israeli forces and warned Lebanon against relying on talks with Israel.
It’s the day you all love. You’re going to get some spending money today. Enjoy it!
