Three week ceasefire
Israel-Lebanon truce extended, to meet at White House soon
Hi everyone, the weekend is here on Friday, April 24.
Yesterday, I was driving back from work when a car hit mine from the side and sped off. It seemed as if the car drive was in a state because his bumper was on the road in bad shape, hitting motorbikes as he ran. Usually we say, ziada nuqsaan nahi hua, let it go, but this time I said no. I called 15 and filed a complainant, went to the relevant police station to file an application and am now waiting to hear back. I have to say the process was really simple and easy in Lahore. I got four calls from the police department over five hours asking if I had been able to file easily (one call at 1130PM) and the police officers were great at the station too. I hope they find the guy/girl and after this seamless experience, I would urge everyone to do the same (in Lahore at least).
No major updates on the war, except a three-week ceasefire in Lebanon but local news is good and bad. Great news as a 26-year-old Pakistani man’s company is being acquired by Elon Musk, horrifying news that police found that a mother allegedly murdered her three young children in Lahore.
It’s all there. See you all Sunday!

The country has been placed under an “intense heatwave” alert until May 5, with cities like Karachi, Lahore and Multan expected to face extreme temperatures and rising health risks. Authorities have been told to activate emergency plans, while citizens are advised to avoid sun exposure and stay hydrated, with heatstroke and dehydration concerns increasing. The Met Office also forecast rain with windstorms and thunderstorms in parts of the country between April 24 and 29.
CM Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti has launched the province’s first research centre to tackle extremism, aiming to guide youth towards positive paths by initiating dialogue between them and the state. He also introduced a digital dashboard to improve policymaking, saying discussions, events and facts are key to rebuilding trust between the state and young people.
In Lahore’s shocking Ichhra triple murder case, police say the mother has been identified as the main accused in the killing of her three young children (5, 4, and 18-month old), by slitting their throats. Investigations revealed that the mother had had an on-going argument with her in-laws, bought the murder weapon (knife) a day before and CCTV footage and forensic evidence strengthened suspicions against her. Further investigations are ongoing to determine exactly what happened.
The Lahore High Court has ruled that a father must continue paying child support even while a case is being retried, calling the responsibility absolute and ongoing. The court stressed that a child’s needs, including food, education, and healthcare, cannot pause during legal proceedings, regardless of disputes between parents.
26-year-old Karachi-born software engineer Sualeh Asif has entered the Forbes Billionaires List, becoming Pakistan’s fourth richest person after his AI startup Cursor surged in value. The company hit a $29.3 billion valuation and over $1 billion in annual revenue, attracting major clients like Nvidia, Adobe, and Uber. A potential $60 billion acquisition deal with Elon Musk’s SpaceX has given massive cred to his global tech impact, with Asif now based in San Francisco leading operations.
Day 56 of the war and an on-going ceasefire
•The following information has been taken from Dawn, Geo, The Guardian and Al-Jazeera.
No breakthrough in the war with tensions remaining steady between the US and Iran. There is a three-week ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, however. All details you need to know are here:
US-Iran tensions
Trump says the US has “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz, but Iran seized two container ships. US special forces boarded a stateless tanker in the Indian Ocean, which the Pentagon says was carrying Iranian crude oil, while US officials say two seized tankers were carrying around 1.9 million barrels of Iranian oil.
The Pentagon has reportedly warned it could take up to six months to clear suspected mines from the waterway and the US govt has ordered its navy to attack any boats laying mines.
Iran says it will not attend peace talks in Pakistan while the US continues its naval blockade, and Trump says he is not rushing a deal because he wants an “everlasting” agreement. Global oil prices remain around $100 a barrel and the IEA has called this “the biggest energy security threat in history.”
Iran’s leadership
Trump claims Iran’s leadership is divided between “hardliners” and “moderates,” but Iranian leaders have rejected this and say they are united. A Guardian report says that Mojtaba Khamenei, who replaced his father as supreme leader in Iran after the February 28 attack, was seriously wounded but is still described by Iranian officials as mentally sharp and engaged.
Lebanon-Israel ceasefire
Trump says Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend their ceasefire by three weeks and may meet at the White House soon. But Israel’s UN envoy says the ceasefire is “not 100 percent,” Hezbollah says it fired rockets after Israeli violations, and fighting has continued, including massive protests Israeli strike that killed Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil (details were in yesterday’s newsletter).
A FIFA World Cup request
Reports came in yesterday that a United States (US) special envoy asked FIFA to remove Iran from the 2026 World Cup and hand their spot over to Italy. US Secretary of State Mark Rubio denied that the US is trying to keep Iran’s football team out of the World Cup, saying the concern is not the athletes but “some of the other people” who may travel with them.
