At a ceremony marking one year of Marka-i-Haq, PM Shehbaz praised Pakistan’s military response to India and announced that May 10 will now be celebrated every year as “Youm-i-Bunyanum Marsoos.” President Zardari and Field Marshal Asim Munir also attended the event, with leaders highlighting military strength, diplomatic efforts and role in regional peace talks, including between the US and Iran.
Karachi saw alarming street crime numbers in April, with over 2,700 motorbikes stolen, 469 snatched at gunpoint and more than 1,600 mobile phones taken from citizens, according to new CPLC data. The report also recorded 42 deaths in violence and firing incidents, alongside cases of kidnapping for ransom and extortion across the city.
Karachi police have arrested the wife of slain doctor Sarang Memon after investigators allegedly found evidence linking her to his murder on Shah-ra Faisal last month. Police say one alleged accomplice has also been detained and the rented car used in the killing recovered. Dr Sarang was shot dead on April 21 after attackers stopped the rickshaw he and his wife were travelling in, confirmed his identity, and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
WhatsApp is testing a new paid subscription called “WhatsApp Plus” that gives users extra features like custom themes, premium stickers, more pinned chats and special ringtones. The normal version of WhatsApp will still stay free for messaging and calls. The feature is currently being rolled out slowly to some users, with reports saying it could cost around Rs229 per month. Meta appears to be trying new ways to make money from WhatsApp without putting basic features behind a paywall.
WAR UPDATE
•The following has been verified from Al-Jazeera, GEO News and Dawn.
Last night, reports came in that Iran has sent its response to the US proposal through Pakistan, and it seemed as it there was some breakthrough in talks. Reportedly, in Iran’s response, which focused more on ending the war first and then the other stuff, the country said that any deal must first end the war across the region, especially in Lebanon, include the lifting of sanctions, an end to the naval blockade, and a clear mechanism for Gulf and Strait of Hormuz security.
Iran reportedly offered a limited pause in uranium enrichment, dilution of part of its enriched uranium stockpile (which was a big one for Trump although he wants them to have zero) and transfer of the rest to a third country (reportedly, Russia), but refused to dismantle its main nuclear facilities or accept what its media called “surrender” terms.
Trump rejected the response as “totally unacceptable,” without giving details, while oil prices jumped after talks appeared to break down. “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, without saying why.
Netanyahu jumped in to to say that the war is “not over” until Iran’s enriched uranium is removed, while the UK and France are preparing a meeting of more than 40 countries on securing trade through the Strait of Hormuz after Iran warned against foreign warships.
Regional diplomacy is still active, with Qatar, Russia, Egypt and Pakistan involved in talks, but the human toll continues to rise, with thousands reported killed in Lebanon since March and Israeli strikes continuing despite ceasefire efforts.
A change is about to happen today, something great and unexpected. Enjoy it.
A diver captured rare, stunning footage on April 24, of an elusive Double-Spot octopus quickly burrowing into the sand in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia. The shy creature, rarely seen by humans, uses its siphon to create quicksand-like conditions and sinks beneath the seabed in seconds to escape. Its a super cool video! Must watch:
